The ummm bottle of wine looks like it is having the desired affect on the owner of it, No 1 G I seems to have a non standard issue side arm is that a Luger holster as don't the P-38 holsters have a pocket on the outside Rt side face 3 rd GI carrying a BAR without the bi-pod attachment.
In most of the pics I notice that the PBI always look on the point of starvation as these lot are looking pretty lean, to have to feed an army constantly on the move in WWII must have been a logistical nightmare no wonder the troops looked at getting what ever they could from the land or towns..

Yes, a Luger I think. The bottle guy is the asst gunner for the BAR, he has the rifle on the mag pouch.

Does the guy on the right with the wine bottle have some type of cover on his helmet?

Remember these were youngsters, haven't filled out to their real size yet, and constantly on the move. They should look like that, not like the older well rounded versions you associate with movies.

The man on the left with the Germanicon holster, that looks like a web sling on his M1icon rifle ? There was a recent discussion on the CMPicon forums about web slings being used in WW2 on M1 Rifles, one
man argued with everyone and anyone that they were "not" used in WW2 !

In Wartime, if push comes to shove, and if needs must you use whatever kit is available. I've heard it stated that in the U.K. after Dunkirk 1940 we were "borrowing/using" weapons and kit out of museums amongst other sources, things were that desperate.

There are too many WW2 photos showing use of web sling for the claim to be true it is humorous that this question repeats it self every few years

Allot of the movies I watch/buy are doco's with actual combat footage the WWI stuff is pretty hard to come by allot have the same footage WWII there is plenty there, one film I did sit through today was The Great Raid about the rescue mission of 511 USAicon POW's from the Bataan Death March by a group of Rangers yet to be battle tried I was pretty impressed with it as it is based on fact and did not suffer to much at the hands of the makers.
Another I watched based on a true story was on an Irish UN force that was cut off in Africa by Mercenaries hired to protect the interests of an un-elected dictator was a bit fanciful in spots never seen a No4T whose scope had just the post in it nor the same Sniper using a Bren as a single shot sniper a chap at @300+ mtrs with a single round, he did remove the mag and single load what I suspect was a Mk VIIIZ round.......? (one for PL to expand on!)
It took them nearly 40 years to acknowledge those troops far to long considering the numbers they faced 20-1 odds against them.
