Shoulder Holster

Hi,

I have had this holster for some time and would like to know more about it.
There are no markings visible other than some handwritten letters and numbers on the securing strap?

I should have mentioned that it appears to have held a Browning HP, based on the shape outline remaining in the holster.

Comments:

It appears to be a leather holster coated or painted in green, from my time in service I have never seen anything like that issued or private purchase.

Our holsters were canvas or some other fabric, holsters in common use were, '82 pattern or Bianchi sourced olive green low draw style which would be converted to chest/under arm but were not open-topped, nor leather.

Unless someone else has seen a piece like this I would suggest it is a civilian piece with some green paint applied.

A BHP would be reasonable for a CF Service Pistol from 1944 to present.

Late Edit: Might be something the tankers had? They had odd pieces here and there.

Those holsters were a standard NATO item that date farther back. That color specifically is what the Airforce had their holsters covered in, and sewn the their survival vests. That one is for the higher ech to wear around C/S 8 and such. They weren't issued around here, just a CFE thing...I'd be surprised if Peter Laidler and some of the others here that did Cold War time in CFE wouldn't have see these or some like them. If you had a few handguns on hand, you'll find they actually hold Hi Power, 1911A1, M&P revolver...several others all equally as badly as the one before it.

Thank you for the replies, I think this explains why I could not find similar items when I searched, and the lack of identification marks.

Certainly had something similar in soft leather in use in the very early days of NI specifically for the 9mm, however, this doesn't ring any bells I'm afraid. Maybe Peter can recall whose issue holsters we used as they were initially issued out from Battalion Armourers to Int Sections as I recall, but they weren't as rigid as your one there.

Thanks Gil, yes that one you had looks a lot different than the one I have. It would be nice to find out exactly what this is and if there is any value in it to someone.

There's always value. Just what an individual will pay. Not much compared to a brand new Tex Shoemaker or Bianchi though.

I'll tell you again then. It's Canadian issue, it's recent production(comparatively) and it was released through Crown Assets, which is in Calgary...OK so far? If you walked through their sales area and saw what was there for sale in huge bulk, footwear you never say before, leather textiles of all description...bags of loose cartridge brass right off the ranges, link from the MGs in sandbags with the tags still on from the ammo depot... This is the same.

Thanks again, I didn't recognize from your earlier post that you had identified this item, somehow I glossed over it without understanding what you said.

I will try to get to Crown Assets next time i'm in Calgary, sounds like I could learn a lot from a trip there.
