Help with lithgow mkIII
I recently picked up a Lithgow
manufacture mkIII dated 1919 under the lithgow logo with a marking on the buttstock of 1943. I decided to buy this particular rifle because it seemed to be in an overall better shape then most I have seen. My question is whether or not the stock has been refinished as it looks suspiciously nice for its apparent age. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Welcome to the forum, if you can show us we'll have a better idea than imagination... The marking of 1943 would suggest, and with the fact it's made by Lithgow
, it's probably a new one. Also, the whole rifle could have been rebuilt for WW2.

Yes I'm trying to post photos but it's telling me the file is to large. I'm not exactly a computer person unfortunately. Thank you for your reply and I apologize I may have to wait until tomorrow to fool with it more.

I haven't taken the rifle apart but from what I can see the numbers on the receiver, bolt handle, rear sight and nose cap are matching.

Welcome to the forum.
Stock looks refinished. Probably a 1943 rebuild. Serial number on the receiver, bolt handle, nosecap? Probably additional stamps under the rear handguard. Closeups of these and any other markings would be helpful to determine what you have.

Thanks for the reply. I'm an unable to take more pictures at the moment but hopefully I can in the next day or two. When you say the stock has been refinished do you mean as part of the factory refurb or possibly by someone who owned the rifle? My fear is that this would negatively impact the value.

Looks to have been lightly sanded. Looks like you have a very nice numbers matching Lithgow
. Look over all the metal for additional markings. I am sure others with more knowledge than me will be along to help you out.
