1943 Long Branch No. 4 Mk 1* Oiler
I have two plastic oilers, one of which I'd like to use with my 1943 LB. I've tried searching the site and the web for info on the two that I have, to no avail.
The three I have are pictured below and include my British
brass bottle and pull through for my SMLE Mk III*. The brown plastic oiler is marked P.H. and has a rubber washer. The black is marked P18 inside the top and has a fibrous/leather washer. I'll use it with the steel pull through.
Where were these two made, by whom, and when(ish)? Which would be correct with my No. 4, or does it matter?

I read online a while back that the brown plastic oiler with "P.H." in a triangle is thought to have been made by Parker Hale, however I don't believe that anyone has ever managed to confirm this information.
I think that one of the Canadian
makers of the plastic oiler was Dominion Plastics or similar name who made a black oiler and they had their name on the outside of the cap. I'm sure someone will confirm shortly.

Thanks for the quick response! Looking forward to more from the community - this is an amazing forum. Love 'Southwest England

Don't know about the makers but the REAL answer to the last question is that it makes or made absolutely what colour or material the oil bottle with your rifle was. What you got was what was given to you when the arms storeman gave you your rifle............ Same as the sling and bayonet too.

I was once given to understand that the brown Bakelite Parker Hale oilers were for their own commercial sales rather than for service issue.
DCP oilers, was this the same manufacturer who made the No.4 plastic scabbard (not the Victory Plastics one) with the rounded end?

Here are 3 oilers in my collection which I understand to be of Canadian
manufacture and the 2 with Canadian Acceptance markings possible Canadian use.

So, the P.H. is Parker Hale? Thought they did mostly metal work, firearms...
Any info on the black P18 oiler?

The P-H oiler is made from Bakelite which is a registered trade mark, Parker Hale would have had these manufactured for them.
In fact P-H put their name to many things that other people had made, spotting scopes being one of them.

Those were the ones we were issued for the FN C1s...for donkey's years. They also had a few black ones and I even have a clearish one. I think the pair on the right in the pics would be a better grab for you than the others. Like Peter states though, whatever was in inventory is what was issued...

I do also have a brown oiler similar to the example in Post 1, picture 2 but without the P.H. logo. It's conceivable that they could have been made by the same manufacturer, I guess, but no way of telling after all these years.
