Combat!
Vince Morrow carried an M1
in the pilot, switched to that Thompson for the rest of the series. Marty Black wrote a great piece for the Fall 2011 GCA
Journal about the series and his hunt for relics on the movie lots used to film it. GREAT article!

Vic is sporting a front seam, fixed bale helmet too. 
I believe that would put the helmet at October 1943 or earlier.

The M1
was too heavy and so was the Thompson for Vic...he had a resin gun he carried for all the cowboy shots. He would only carry the real one for shooting scenes...
