Home Guard converted M1917 Scabbard???

I've owned this Model 1917 bayonet a while which has had it's belt mounting hacked off roughly with a hacksaw, by the look of it. What I am interested in is whether this was likely done by the British Home Guard during WW2 in order to fit British leather and webbing frogs or if it was done later by a civilian owner for some unknown reason, perhaps trying to make a British scabbard out of an American one. Sadly this has somewhat destroyed an early type M1917 scabbard but it is still interesting if done by the Home Guard. I can't decide one way or the other who may have done this and obviously we can't say for sure, but I was wondering if we could arrive at a consensus of opinion, please, on the most likely "converter" of this scabbard. I could make replacement parts to put it back to original spec but I wouldn't do this if it is felt that the home Guard probably removed the U.S. belt hanger/mounting.

Yes, it was one way they were done...the others had the top piece attached and they too were sawed off. Then the big leather frog in many cases, tight fit and all was well.

Yeah, as mentioned above it's a Home Guard mod of the scabbard. I've a similar early type 1 US M1917 scabbard which has had the US belt attachment/frog chopped off and the British Home Guard type leather frog fitted.

Same conversion was done in Canada to fit P1937 frog. Some were not converted and simply put in P37 frog.

Yes, that's true. The hooks up top didn't need to be cut but would interfere with things so generally they'd be altered.

Ok thanks chaps for your input and information. At one stage I was on the verge on making the missing parts to return it to original spec but it was obvious that the bits had been cut off rather than just fallen off and then it dawned on me, perhaps it was a Home Guard conversion. I'll leave it as it is and try to locate a leather frog similar to what Time Bandit has. I have umpteen variations of webbing frog but no leather British leather frogs. Thanks again for the help.
