Seen this Inland Letter Opener on a Ebay auction.
Does anyone know what that face/symbol on the handle is or stands for?
Maybe just some Art Deco design from the 40's ??

The face design reminds me of a hood ornament from the 1940s, I'm no car buff but the connection to a General Motors car is logical.

I wonder what the seller thinks this letter opener has to do with the carbine M1 other than the Inland connection?

He's one of my favorite sellers. I believe he had a thread or post here on the forum awhile (years?) back and showed this to us. It reminded me of the hood ornament on my uncle's late 40's Pontiac. Nice item, I thought. - Bob

Wonder if this letter opener was used to open Inlands first contract letter ?
It's a piece of Inland Div history, no different than buying old employee ID badges, Company newsletters, books and other Inland (or any makers ) related items, along with items from their sub-contractors ... etc. I remember someone having some bricks that came from their building. Never under estimate how deep the interests go when collecting from there favorite maker (s) .

As for this particular seller/collector you'll look long and hard for one of better character.

BAR, Pontiac... very possible, these are really pieces of art.









These get in to the 50's but have the glass or plastic resin in them. I have no idea when these were developed, nor when the Inland letter opener was made. To me the letter opener looks to have softer features than a Male Chief, but......... Enough already LMAO !

Nothing but top quality stuff from the seller. Hard to find those of high character these days, especially on FeePay.

It's the one with the tab that wasn't ground off as shown in your picture. Will take come better pics of it when I get a chance. Enjoy anything carbine. Don't run into things like this that much, but have seen some pretty cool stuff. A badge and chair from IP. FeePay does have a nice Inland pin, but it's quite expensive compared to other things.

Not sure of the time period, but I did read an earlier thread about the letter opener and when it may have been produced. Was surprised how big it is and the condition. Very rare to find one with its original flip sight and no bayo lug marks....

I remember those hood ornament's Charlie, I'm 60 so those were on the road when I was a kid.
