Got for free

came across a m-1 carbine i got for free. like to get some info on it . like to know what i have. the serial number is 803482,seems to be all factory original. Mfg. is Inland co. part of GM i am told. have not striped it down yet but here is a list of what i have found, barrel is dated 6-43 made by inland co, US carbine cal 30 M1 stamped on top front of receiver. Inland division and serial number 803482 stamped on rear top or receiver. rear sight is adjustable for windage with windage knob, elevation is done by sliding the sight to a number on sliding sight ramp floor , numbers are, #1-#2-#2.5-#3 . there is a ordnance cartouse of crossed cannons in a circle stamped on right rear side of stock. cheese grader style butt plate.The letters EPB stamped on mag. release lever. front barrel band with spring for hand guard i think. rear sight has a stamped shield symbol with a H inside of it. I can see no rust anywhere and very few dings or scratches on the stock and the metal is still all blue. the wood is dark brown. There are a few other stamps but they are so small i can't make them out . is there anyone who can help me out with some info.

You've given us all the info we could give you without a set of pics...like Gil says, pics would be priceless...

What you have been given is an Inland carbine that post WW2 went through a rebuild to update it to the latest type. The parts were mixed during the rebuilding as your magazine release was made for IBM. The rear sight and the type 3 barrel band for a bayonet are replacements. Typical of all carbines so that 98% of them have been rebuilt post WW2. Your barrel date is a bit early for the serial number but it could be the original as it's about 4 months back. (Last one in the bin) Pictures are a positive way to ID the carbine for you.

If the trigger housing turns out to be Inland (big stamp on side) of the right type, you have what I call the 'big 3'; receiver, barrel and housing of the same maker and period, possibly together since manufacture. Even on a rebuild/updated carbine, this counts for something. If the carbine is 'blued' and not Parkerized, it could be original finish although its unlikely. We would have to see good, clear pictures of it. I don't know that I've ever seen a blued carbine with updated features.
