Correct steel cleaning rod for the Bren chest ?
What was the steel cleaning rod that was issued for the Bren gun transit chest ? I believe there are leather keepers attached to the underside of the lid to hold a rod ? Would a Lewis or a Vickers steel cleaning rod be correct for use for the Bren Gun ?

There were quite a few variations of the steel cleaning rods of the era but generally speaking the ones from the chest had a rotating 'T' shaped handle that allowed the rod and flannelette to rotate with the rifling as you pushed it up and down the bore.

In the Canadian
chests that I have, the cleaning rod was the twisted wire type.

I don't think they are brass, but rather bronze coated steel. I have never cut one open to see the make-up.
BRP has them here: British Flexible Cleaning Rod - BRP CORP Store

AMAZING. I've seen one or two Brens in my time and the same amount of chests and CES but never seen a cleaning rod like that. Many thanks. What about you Tankie? Skippy? BAR?

No, that wouldn't last for anything. My troops could destroy that in five minutes.

You'll have to be careful about the length because some of the rods that sellers claim are for the Bren are, when you try, a little too long to fit in the chest. I couldn't get the correct length rod and, in the end, had to shorten a longer rod to fit the chest. It's only to fill a space in the chest and to go with a U.K. deactivated Bren and so didn't really matter because it is only for show/display purposes.
