PLEASE HELP! 1903 Springfield - Offered to me
Hi,
I was offered this 03 Springfield for $550.00.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
It was manufactured by Springfield Armory serial no. 1027376.
The rifle obviously went through a rebuild and the barrel is marked SA 6-27.
The muzzle gauges a 4 and is kind of frosty.
Not a perfect rifle by any means.
Comes with sling and oiler shown.

I'd buy it just to try it out and if I wasn't satisfied with the way it shot I would re-barrel it. If your looking for a shooter without a lot of fuss you could wait it out and probably be into another for the same one way or another.
I like the hand-guard/stock, sling, replacement bolt and the rear sight collar doesn't look to beat up at the graduations. Looks like all you may need is a barrel to be in good shape.

Try shooting it before anything...that may clean up a bunch yet. I'd take it I think, but we don't have the choice the US citizens do...

Its really too much hassle for me to re-barrel the rifle.
Then I have to find a barrel and sink more money into it.
If I buy it, it is "as is" so I cant return it.
I figured that for an 03 this was a fairly cheap price.
I understand the barrel is not very good but its from 1927 and my gauge tends to be off toward the negative side.
I did the bullet test and here are the results.
I am not intending to shoot it very much.
Probably just a little plinking.

I think that will shoot fine. I think once you shoot and clean it a bit it may come up more. We've seen this lots.

Thank you for the input. I did actually clean the bore but I have not fired it.
Hopefully it will shoot well at the range.

It's shooing it that loosens up stuff you can't brush out. You'll see...some come up shiney after shooting. Hard to say. We'll be waiting...

I'd be all over it. Sling is $100. I like rebuilds since they tend to be "honest."
Love it!
