Need help dating my M1 Garand ammo belt/suspenders
Hello, (first time poster).
I bought an M1
Garand ammo belt with suspenders a while ago at a gun show. I spent $100CAN ($80US). I was told at the time that it was from WWII. But looking at it now I think the suspenders are M1956? Can anyone tell me if the ammo belt is authentic and how old it is or did I completely get ripped off?
My Garand is from 1954-56 so I actually prefer late 50's equipment to accompany it, I just want to know if I got an ok deal or not.

Sorry if I did anything wrong, I'm a new member.

Yes, late suspenders. M1956 I think is right. The belt is OD7 which is the later belt. In Canada
, $100 is probably about right too. The date you want them to match is about right I'd say. They'll do fine.

You will get a better balance out of the rig if you move the two front straps closer to the buckle (but not right on the buckle).

As to what Bear suggests, if you fill the belt it will become evident where the straps should be to balance the weight.

The suspenders are definitely M1956 & the second to last image shows a "D.S.A." number. DSA numbers were used 1962 to 1977 and meant Defense Supply Agency. The ammo belt might have lettering under one of the pocket flaps. Did you check those? Definitely period correct for pre/ early Vietnam.

I figure your webbing set up will go great with your M1
rifle. In the Viet Nam war (especially the early years) both the ARVN & VC used the M1 rifle.
