Snider Enfield Restoration

I have a nice 3 band Snider Enfield Mk.II* that I'd love to put back to rights. I've done some Lee Enfields over the years, but this one is proving to be more of a challenge. I contacted IMA as their site shows parts for sale but they never got back to me. I need the swivels (I have the bands), a 5" brass butt plate, the complete breech block, the small screw that locks the pivot bar in place, and (in a perfect world) the nipple protector and chain. Any of you out there have some suggestions, ideas, input, or a beat-up donor rifle?

The pivot bar screw and snap cap/protectors are available.. you might struggle to find a breech block though.. remember that the Snider is basically a modified P53 Enfield, so that stock and action spares for these will fit a Snider as well!

Thanks bombdoc, but I found his site when I first started sourcing parts. Too pricey, by the time you factor in the exchange rates and shipping. I'm waiting to hear back from International Military Antiques in the US and from some fellow gunnutz here in Canada. IMA also buys parts and I'll have a few to trade or sell to defray the cost of the parts I need.

lawrence: Personally I think your best bet might be to buy a solid "cadet carbine" to use as a parts source. Ellwood Epps has one for sale pretty cheap right now. The cost of buying small parts from Dyson adds up pretty fast. Regarding IMA, their Sniders (and I assume parts) are strictly Nepalese and may not fit a British ordnance issue rifle. Regarding the breech block- if your rifle is a Mk II*, be aware that the Mk II** had alterations to the precise form of the block and shoe. I don't know if a Mk II** block will fit into an unmodified Mk II* shoe as I've never tried to swap them. Have this question answered before buying a Mk II** block. Good luck with it!

I think your best bet might be to buy a solid "cadet carbine" to use as a parts source.

Then it could always be re-sold to someone hungry for a cadet...
