Oh! the shame of it all
An old add I found whilst looking for something else who would have thought about buying a few back then especially the L42's but 2 unissued No.4's for $119/Pr Waah!
I should not have abbreviated Pair to Pr sorry.

Relax. It says "Two for $119.95 ea.", meaning each one of the two is $119.95.

Its the collector grade, 'full set' L42 for only $895........at 1994 exchange rates that was just over 600 quid .................
But that was probably quite a lot back then for one, even a minter.

Notice those prices are the dealer pricing, "suggested retail" is $1200.
In 1994 I was pulling down around $9 - $10/hr... and had money to burn.
I turned down a cased L42 because I thought (and was advised) $1100 was too much when a No4T was around $800...
And I turned down my friends Savage No4T because it wasn't Canadian
...
I could go on, but I'll start to cry....

1996, I was offered a No4t for £750. No packing crate, but just rifle and matching scope. I let being broke stand in my way. Hindsight says I should have just taken a deep breath and caned the credit card.

I suppose we all have tales to tell like this. When Charnwood ordnance were packing up in around 1999/2000 I was offered 30 boxed L42's at 500 pounds apiece............& turned them down! If I'd been possessed of hindsight I'd have broken open my piggy bank, or even have taken out a bank loan & still made money.

Remember my dad saying something about "If ifs and buts were candy and nuts." Don't remember the rest. But if only I had known then what I know now.
Oh well.
