(M1 Garand/M14/M1A Rifles)
Fun on the precision drill team
Yesterday I went to a performance of the largest military tattoo in these United States
. It was impressive!!! There were plenty of Canadian
pipe and drum bands represented, by the way.
In the middle of the show we were treated to a performance by Hans Majestet Kongens Garde, the Norwegian
King's Guard band and precision drill team. It, too, was impressive - they are an sharp bunch. Right in the middle of the show and in the middle of a maneuver, one fellow's M1 Garand spontaneously field stripped itself. The action and butt stock flew across the arena floor and landed in front of me.
Now, these were fully-functional rifles, demonstrated when they fired off a blank round as part of their routine and as I visually examined the now-exposed action. The fellow who lost his rifle continued the routine without missing a beat, so precisely that it was hard to spot him.
Extra entertainment!
Now, this is a NATO show, but I still wonder how they got the Garands and all the Canadian piper's and drummer's dirks through customs?

Gil it may be like my Nephew if on duty being an AFP Detective if he has to use domestic travel like aircraft that they probably have a special area for them to go through without the screening for weapons as he would be concealed carrying I should guess, I may ask him but then again they may have rules on disclosure.

It's simple, their military and customs just doesn't act the same. Paperwork is raised and checked and all is well. Pretty simple actually.

Yes, quite simple. Protocol between governments about military equipment. Approval and authorities and paperwork done months in advance. Happens all the time.
