Signal Telescope Leather
My signal telescope Mk VI has rather dilapidated leather end caps, with out connecting strap or shoulder strap. As I use it periodically I am keen to purchase or manufacture replacement end caps and straps. Would any one happen know someone who produces these, preferably in the UK
?
Alternatively could I trouble some one who has one detailed photos of the end caps and straps, articulated dimensions of the connecting and shoulder straps.
Thanks

Hopefully the above shows the state of the end caps I have and lack of any associated straps.

Any of the local saddlers will be able to replace the strap and buckle part. Living out in the horsey country in the wilds of rural Wiltshire, like you do, will have a saddler. The buckle is a common size and still in use

My only issue with using a saddler, or doing it myself given I am an adequate functional cobbler, is a lack of dimensions for the straps. The end caps as I have the original I can re fabricate with relative ease. They should at least be less fiddly than the No32 scope covers I’ve made.
Ideally for each strap some kind person would supply: length, width and approximate depth of leather, along with photos of the straps and buckles (although photos I can likely scavenge from google).

See the attached photos. Copy and annotate with the relevant parts you want close ups of and measurements and I will upload accordingly.

Roy W,
Those are great thank you, in fact it looks like the main should strap is similar dimensions (except length) to the short end cap straps (one half of which I have). Assuming that is case think I can use the parts I have as a reference with your photos and generate what I need. I may have a question or two once I’ve made up the patterns but I think I’m good for now.
Now I just need to check the leather stock I have is long enough for at main strap..... maybe I could liberate a stirrup leather, but I’m getting ahead of myself....
Out of interest is anyone out there looking for a functional copy of these parts, it is likely to be the sort of item where a small batch isn’t materially more effort than a one off.
