A friend asked if I know what this gun was "originally". I have no idea, so I figured I would see if someone out here knows. Thanks for any feed back.

I’m stumped!
It feels like an early design. Circa 1870 or so.
None of the ones off the top of my head match though.
Mauser 1871. Kropatschek. Gras 1874. Lebel 1886. Nothing.

Thanks for taking a look.

It looks like the bolt handle has been modified, looks like it was turned down for a scope, so I would guess it was originally straight.

A Carcano! Found it.
Looks like a sporterized 1891 Carcano.

I wasn’t too far off on the date.

Carcano action with a later style bolt (the extractor isn't cut through the bolt locking lug).
