sedgley 1903 Sporter
Found a Sedgley Sporter in not the best condition individual locally is needing to sell.
Rifle has a cracked stock behind the receiver and what looks like vise marks on the barrel.
Sedgley stamp on the top of the receiver, Sedgley cocking piece and that is what I have gleaned from the photos provided.
Price is reasonable.
Looking for any comments and if you think the rifle is salveagable.
Thanks in advance
leggett

Pretty rough indeed.
That’s not the original stock and I don’t think the barrel is either.
It’s not worth a whole lot...$400?

Thanks that is pretty much what I thought, just never have seen one except in the '03 books, he is asking $300.

I’d probably buy it for $300. A nicer stock would work wonders on it.

I'd grab that in a NY minute!! Especially if the bore is decent. (Of course I'd try to get it for $250).

Question...Does the barrel have a date and letters indicating a contract. Those vise marks could be from a pipe fitter's that USMC used to rebarrel 03's with 1938-1942. Shame if that was a low serial number Marine '03 rifle to end up ignominiously buffed and rebuilt as a Sedgley. But I'd snatch it up if that's a USMC barrel, and give it some Semper Fi. But that's me...

Inspected the rifle yesterday.
From that it looked to me the only thing salvageable was the receiver & the bolt.
Barrel only marking was C121Attachment 104629
Barrel dents were not typical of those posted for a USMC, more like a bubba bench vise.
Failed head-space check on field gauge.
Maybe wrong decision but more work required than I wanted to do so I passed on it.
If El Woodman is interested it is listed on Tulsa Armslist.
Thanks for everyone's input this forum as always has great members ready to help.
Have a fantastic new year.

Sedgley’s aren’t what I’d call rare so I think you made the right choice.
You can get a VERY nice one on GunBroker for $800 or so.
I just sold one that had some side mount scope holes for $750.
I bought the one in my collection from there for $900 and it’s pretty dang close to perfect.
