Rock Island Armory M1917 Barrel

Can anyone tell me the story behind my RIA marked M1917 barrel? I have seen nothing in print about Rock Island making barrels for the M1917, but I have one, clearly marked behind the front sight slot with the RIA logo.

According to Ferris, RIA made a run of replacement 1917 barrels

Long. odd story. Off my bad memory RIA had Savage make the blanks? Finished by another firm and shipped in the white to RIA. They parkerized them and mounted very few. Sold off 1947(?) through DCM sales. Very small number ever made and seldom seen today.

"The RIA barrels were manufactured in 1942 using blanks supplied by Remington and turned to size by Savage. RIA did the final machining. According to Ferris, a total of 2,100 barrel blanks were supplied by Remington. The barrels are very scarce" source JB. Very uncommon, hang on to it.

I know, old thread but I also have a RIA barreled M1917.....They are around but there were so few barrels made (2100 and not all were used) that folks don't tend to believe it.

My example is also has the P firing proof so I guess it was rebarreled and proofed at a armory.



The rifle is a total mixmaster.
