Identify my 1918 Enfield
I have a Enfield that my father had picked up when I was a kid (52 now) and don't know much of anything about it. Haven't seen any pictures of one with same markings as mine so figured y'all would be a great place to ask. I'm sure it's been asked a lot on here and I appreciate the help.

It is a nice example of a sporterised Lee Enfield "Short Lee Enfield" Mark 1** (which means it is a Mk1 which has had two updates, a star for each modification) It was manufactured at the Enfield factory (near London) in 190? and is a IP (India pattern)
It was subsequently marked with Indian RFI (Rifle Factory Ishapore - India) markings.
It was then 'sold out of service' in the UK
& has had Civilian proof testing from the London proof House (NP 18.5 tons, 2.222" etc etc)
Some time later (most likely in the USA
) it was sporterised by cutting down the woodwork. The pictures don't show the end of the barrel so we don't know if it has been cut-down.
Mine are not the best, but they are not too bad. I can think of lots of Enfields I'd rather have but instead of constantly striving for more, sometimes it's good to be satisfied with what one has...

That rifle has an interesting history-not many IP's around. If the barrel has not been cut and the bore is in reasonable condition, I think it would be a good candidate for restoration. And the safety is missing.
