BL-C2 303 Brit in Ross Rifle
Was not able to stock up on my preferred powder H4895 but have gotten a few others before it all became hard to get and over priced . One was BL-C2 and I made some test loads for my Lee Enfield Longbranch Mk4 No1 and it shot very well . Today I took my 1905 Ross Rifle in 303 Brit out expecting same results because I had been using same load in both with H4895 and getting nice results but it was not there . Is it the twist rate or burn rate with the BL-C2 or both doing it ? I will make up some more test loads and hopefully the weather will be good enough to get back out to shoot this week . Just when you say "I is going to be easy" you jinx yourself !!!!!! Anyone else get themselves set up like this were same load/powder/bullet shooting good in a few rifles but with a different powder you have to use different loads for them ?

One has to remember those rifles were designed for the MkV or VI .303 ball: 215gr. round nose bullet and lower velocity etc.

I will try and find some 215gr RN bullets , have been using 150gr spitzer flat bottom and see how it does . I am loading minimum charge but will check and see about if ok to reduce a bit more if the heavier bullet does not improve accuracy . Accuracy is not horrible but it did open up quite abit more compared to before .

"...find some 215gr RN bullets..." I believe only Woodleigh makes 'em. You do need to slug the barrel first though. They're 312".

However, the Ros was used with standard issue Mk VII ball with its 174 grain spitzer at 2440 FPS.

Midway has the 215gr RN bullets but I am holding off on ordering them . A friend has some 174 Spitzer bullets and he is giving me some to try , just need to make time to go get them . I had got to thinking about maybe trying a heavier Spitzer first . They are a boat tail . The boat tails I had used when testing loads for my Lee Enfield in the past didn't do great , but they were 150gr . so maybe the heavier bullet will do better .

303 barrels were made for 174gr flat base spitsers. Try them first. Lighter bullets and boat tail might be too short for the leade. However, I've been wrong before.

After the introduction of MkVII Ball, which is not what this rifle was set up for.
