280 Ross barrel
I need some thoughts on what to do with this barrel. It is a Ross commercial 280 barrel. A 280 Ross shell fits right into the chamber. The barrel is marked with tape 338. The bore is definitely larger than 280. I do have a military Ross 1910 receiver that it screws right into.
So. Any thoughts on what I can do with this setup?
Don

I think you need to do a chamber cast to see what you have.

So you may have a .280 that was re-bored when the barrel wore out.
Are the threads square in form or standard?

Perhaps slug the bore to be sure of diameter and set your mind at rest.

Once you've done the chamber cast you'll know if you have a wildcat based on the .280 case or something else.
