Medal Ribbons
I found these medal ribbons today which I thought people may like to see.
For me the interesting ones are the pair of duplicates with the pre-war Indian Service with M.I.D. and the African Star with the 8th army.
I've identified the one with the question mark as the Army Emergency Reserve Efficiency medal.

Normally a silver number stitched to a medal ribbon, attributes tours completed same as the UN medal for HM Forces and a silver number donates the amount you have done.
I think the eight has been stitched on with pride to donate as you say the 8th Army, but not normal IMHO.
The blue ribbon with the yellow bands is a Emergency Reserve Medal .

Shouldn't the Italy
Star and the reserve medal ribbons be swapped around, with Italy Star, War medal, defense medal & Reserve medal being the correct order....???
Just the thing for putting round holes in square heads.

Things changed after 1945.
In the UK
& Commonwealth only, it was in the order that YOU recieved them, with Queens awards such as the VC/MC/MM/QGM/CGM etc coming first.

The WW2 stars were allocated an order and yes, the ribbon bar is upside down as stated, Italy
St, Def,WM,Emerg Res MEd
The Africa Star came with three clasps, North Africa 1942-43, 1st Army and Eigth Army.
The North Africa clasp is represented by a Rosette, the 1st Army clasp is represented by a Numeral '1' and the Eighth Army clasp is represented by a numeral '8'.
This chap would have been in the Eighth Army.
I suspect this chap had two rows of ribbons, the top row L-R. IGSM/1939-45 Star/Africa Star
Bottom Row Italy St/Def Med/ War Med/ AERM that would also be the correct order for these ribbons.
The only anomaly is the rosette on the IGSM, they never had a rosette. I suspect that it could possibly be a second award bar on the AERM, which would be indicated by a rosette. Or, it's just been added.
Had it been an MID it would have been a bronze Oak Leaf, not a rosette.
