Well now, 1917 Colt revolver in my sights
The saga of working at the local gunshop continues. An original Colt Model 1917 martial marked .45 ACP/half moon clip revolver came in the door on possible consignment. Original finish 40% or so, no pitting, lanyard ring intact and grips intact except for small chips out of the front bottom corners... Looks mostly like holster wear and some hard use.
It has my name on it if the owner decides to sell. I already load .45 ACP for my 1911A1, so this will be a hoot to shoot! I'll take some pics if I put it in Commiefornia 10 day jail. A 1917 Colt or S&W .45 ACP has been on my short list for awhile. He has a S&W too, but it has been buffed and re-blued, and is missing the hammer spring. I like the Colt with its honest wear better.

Agreed, even without pics!
I even prefer a gun with some honest wear over one with a pristine finish.
Not much interesting about a gun that sat in a sock drawer for 100 years!

My very first New Service was a 1917 but it was cut down to a snub. Bubba had cut the bbl but never squared it so it keyholed. It got sold unfortunately. Of course in my old age I’ve cut and faced about a dozen pistols, rifles and sg’s. If I knew then what I know now. Planning on having a fellow cas shooter/ smith build me another snubby out of a NS but its been made into a .45colt. It has a real provenance but with the rechamber [from .455] and a heavy polish and reblue it’s just a shooter with a history.
