is this a japanese paratrooper bayonet?

Both from the same seller and I bought the long one which he said was a type 100 bayo. Have I been scammed?

I have never heard of a type 100 bayonet, I am pretty sure the Japanese simply used the Type 30 bayonets on everything. The only real variations was in the late 30s when they started to simplify. Doesn't mean it doesn't exist but those don't look like Japanese style of bayonets to me (the point seems to always be in line with the rear edge of the bayonet), likely something someone modified.

Neither of those photographed are the Type 100 bayonet. A real one is posted below.
Also, I realize collectors have called this a Type 100 bayonet forever, but original documents found in Japan a number of years ago correctly identify these as a Test type 1, which were to be used as a side or fighting knife by Rangers and Paratroops as documented and published in the excellent reference book "Bayonets of Japan" by Ray LaBar.

Hi, thanks for the reply.
There were a number of types of bayonets other than the type 30 used by the Japanese military between the turn of the century (19th) and the end of WWII. The type 100 is a purpose made bayonet made for the Arisaka Type 2 paratrooper rifle. They are VERY rare. The best example Ive seen recenly is currently posted in Ebay for $2699! A type 2 rifle goes for about the same. There was a recent GB post of a type 2 rifle with a type 100 bayo asking just under $5000! I got my type 2 Arisaka rifle years ago for $600. Im not ready to plunk down thousands for the bayo!

I thought perhaps there was more than one type of Japanese paratrooper bayo and the longer one was valid, but the seller either mis-identified it or mis-represented it. I cancelled the order and got my payment back, so no harm done, but I felt the fool!

However, Sarco offers and excellent reproduction type 100 bayonet and I ordered one so that I will no longer be tempted to pay such prices for what amounts to a long unsharpened knife!

yep, got my money back and ordered a Sarco replica for $75! A WIN-WIN! (but I felt the fool for falling for a fake)

thanks, I need to get that book! Ive got about a dozen japanese bayonets and really dont know one from another. I got them to mount on my many types of Japanese rifles. BTW, did the Japanese issue bayos for trhe type 99 and type 97 sniper rifles? Ive got a bayo on both, but I want my collection to be authentic. (with the exception of the Sarco replica/repor Test type 1 bayo I just ordered!)

You're not a fool but it's best to do your homework or get advice first if the item is expensive and you're not sure, before parting with your cash.

Anything for sale that that has an "elite force" prefix in the description such as Airborne, Paratrooper, SAS, Marines, or any other elite force is likely have a significant premium on the price sometimes because the seller has tried to connect the item for sale to an elite force.

I think the long one might be a Hanyang bayonet and they are rare themselves, $200-$300 if it can be confirmed that is what it is.

Im still looking for an enfield 1903 for my 1914 No3 mk1. Had an Ishapore bayo on it until I learned what it was and that it was from 1944. Now I need to find a WWII no3 mk1* to mount it on. I needed it to complete my WWII battle rifle collection anyway. Need a scabbard for the Ishapore as well. Any suggestions?
