I'm pretty sure it is a Vietnam era US MACV-SOG silencer.

The "stamping" on the side of the receiver looks like it was done "on Saturday morning in the garden shed".

I agree that the gun is a bitser, with the Canadian main casing, Brit mag. housing and stock. The suppressor unit is not the same as the Mk. 6 unit detailed in "The Sten Machine Carbine", and is most certainly not a IIS unit.
I doubt that it is a civilian assembly. Something set up by/for MACV-SOG would be a reasonable. It might also explain how it got into the US and registered. The stamping on the left side of the trigger box relates to when it was first registered in the US.
I was impressed with how quiet it was when Ian demonstrated it. Microphone pickup can be a bit deceiving, but the action noise wasn't drowned out by the shot.

That’s a real mix master and the only originality is the parts that are in it. I hope it wasn’t bought in the belief it was a genuine suppressed STEN.
