Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. OK I give up! What is the pouch hanging off the guy on the right?
Also look like rifle grenade tube sticking out of his backpack.
Bolt action rifle carried by the guy on the left............
Guy on the left has different items hanging off his belt also!

Bolt actions were issued commonly until grenade launchers came available for the M1 icon

and different jobs TO&E demanded different weapons. This allowed front line troops to carry front line rifles. The gear issued with a bolt action would be different to some degree.
