They are still out there.
Went to a small gun show today in Mt. Vernon WA. Sparsely attended, probably because was scheduled same day as a big show just outside Seattle.
Picked up two No4MkI rifles, first was a 1942 dated Savage US Property marked No4MkI*. No mag and foreend had been bobbed off by bubba, but the bolt matched, the barrel superb, and the price was right at 70 dollars.
Next one is a nice Long Branch, can`t remember year, but all military, matching, with excellent bore. I believe this one is a post-war Canadian
refurb, evidenced by the finish, but still has a BNP proof. Got it for 175 dollars. I never pass up a Long Branch or Savage rifle if decent and price is right.

"...still has a BNP proof..." Sold through England
. Anything rebuilt in the Canadian
Arsenals Longbranch Plant would not have Brit proof marks.
Check the headspace on both before you shoot 'em. Matching numbers does not guarantee that the bolt head hasn't been changed.
Gunparts is currently out of original mags. They do have Promag replacements. They look like cut down FAL or M14
mags. $30 for a No. 4 mag.
"...foreend had been bobbed..." It still have the bayonet lugs? Check the barrel length too. Gunparts does have stock parts.
"...unless it's a Garand..." There is something about 'em no other rifle has.
Spelling and Grammar count!

Yep, knew that, Could be misremembering though, I'll have another look see tomorrow night after I get back home.

Got my Arrowmark headspace gauges years ago. I also have appx 20 different LB and CA marked boltheads just in case the heapspace is a little long.

Those promag magazines are junk, got one once attached to a No1MkIII*. I think I used it as a fishing weight. Still have an extra mag or two, although my supply is getting thin.

Barrel length original and bayonet lugs in place. Currently have about 12 stock sets lying about. Hardest part to find without resorting to Springfield Sporters or Numrich is the little machine screw that fits the front sight protector. Same size and thread as the back screw for the trigger guard, but length is different.

Another thing that's not quite right about the Long Branch that does not point towards being a post war rebuil is that it still has the two position rear flip sight. All the other Canadian rebuilds I have are fitted with the CMk3 rear sight.

Reason: red was too hard on the eyes.
