Note the more defined taper and less bearing surface than the aftermarket projectiles, this increased bearing surface and softer metal are what combats the old throat erosion stories.
Heres a page from Sierra on BTvFB in .30 cal, remember this problem of throat erosion is applicable right across the board, not just confined to cordite, just a tad more noticable because of the rapidity of the onset with old Military ammo.

Though this article does not deal with throat erosion as such, it does bring it all back to barrel condition, our problem is that we don't want to despoil our collectables, but still want match grade accuracy, the unachievable without rebarreling......bugger.
