    Correct parts on mk4 T ?

Have a bsa shirley dated 43. It has a modified rear sight marked F. This rear sight has been modified to allow the bolt removal while scope is in place. The otherpart i am wondering about is what appears to be aluminum or other type cast metal butplate.

    Question

Is this the same rifle you were asking about in this thread?

WTK: mk4T good or bad? (click here)

The modification of the rear sight for the purposes you describe sounds correct.

It sounds like it might be a Long Branch replacment butt? Buttplates for Canadianicon No.4 rifles were made out of a gray (aluminum looking) metal material that was called Wikipedia reference-linkZAMAK, first developed in 1929 and also known as zamacicon. I stand to be corrected by the Enfield experts here, but I don't think a British No.4(T) BSA (Shirley Plant) should be anything but a brass buttplate. It sounds like it may be a later replacement by someone other than through an official FTR or a unit armourer.

As mentioned in the other thread, check the England - Milsurp Knowledge Library for the representative example we have there, of an "all correct" 1944 Enfield No.4 Mk1(T) Sniper Rifle (Mfg by BSA Shirley - M47c), complete with a 130 picture photo montage of most of the markings and components you should see on yours.

    Hope this helps ...

    Regards,
    Badger

Of the 3 1944 BSA M47Cs which I've had, only 1 had a brass butt plate, the other 2 were dimac/zamac pot metal...
