    Winchester model 12

    I have a Winchester model 12 , 12 Ga serial# 615XXX. I assume that this corresponded with a manufacturing year 1930. Is there a possibility it was used during WW2? It has no military markings.

    I think that serial number is from after WWII. Going off of memory I would say that it is a 1948-49 manufacture. I could be wrong, but I think I might be right.

    Chris, those numbers are incorrect. You must have gotten them from one of the on line sites that list them wrong. I have a M12 Trench gun, all original, with the serial number 1011066 and the barrel is dated 1943. Many other guns I have observed fall into this serial number range with the 43 date and books on these shotguns verify the 1943 dates. I can't recall what that site is but they are off by several years in their serial numbers. They have been told from what I hear, but they haven't corrected their listing and it screws up a lot of research for people with their misinformation, Ray

    The ending number is around 1035000 with the last approx 3500-5000 being Factory Parkerized. The beginning number is around 980000 (that is very approx).
    Your gun falls within his range so I am not sure what you are calling incorrect, other than the fact that the 939000 number is probably way too low.
