    Strange short Mauser

I have a few K98icon mausers around, and all seem to have barrels that are approx. 23" in length.

One oddball Mauser though--a WW2 bringback, 1939-dated matching rifle--has a 19" barrel and a shortened handguard. What do I have here?

That is a good question. Best guess is that it is a cut down due to the non standard barrel length, markings, etc. Why it was done is anyone's guess. I had a Persian Mauser Model 1949 carbine in 8mm and a Dutch Model 1950 Mauser carbine, and they had 17 inch barrels. Mean little cusses too. They were no fun to shoot.

Is the stock spliced under the barrel band?

    Short Mauser

Notice how the front band sits farther back than it should? Suspect it was modified by someone.

    Unhappy

I agree. It has been shortened, by someone who knew what he was doing altho he didn't set the bayo lug back far enuf.
Unfortunately he ruined a matching rifle. It will now never be anything but a different looking shooter.
What are the markings on top of the rec?
