Not as funny as the "rod bayonet" rifle I saw a couple of years ago at a gun show in PA. Someone had drilled into the end of the stock and inserted about 4 inches cut off a Model 1888 rod bayonet. The faker not only overlooked the obvious fact that the "rod" wouldn't fit into the bore, but that the rifle was an '03A3.

Last I saw, someone was dickering over the price ($2500 on the tag). I don't know if he bought the (truly) rare gun or not. (Like many fakers, the seller lowballed the gun. He may not have known what a real rod bayonet M1903 was worth, but more than likely he wanted to set the price low enough to be in the range of what the people at that show would pay and also low enough that some sucker would "take a chance" on its being right and buy it.)
