6 grove Long branch "bren" barrels

Does anyone know about when they were first used on No4s? I have one fitted to a rile, and also marked Cmk4.

1958 if in 303. Make available to DCRA shooter...very nice barrel if you can acquire one.

rgg7: My own is dated 1958 (on the barrel). Do you know if the barrels were installed at the government arsenal or sold individually for private use? There are no discernable (to me) factory re-fit marks on my '43. In any case, a very tidy installation and a great shooter (I can easily do 2 inch groups at 100 yards with a Parker Hale sight I've added).

I thought the 6 groove barrels were made when they tested the machines for the Korean war...that is building and re-furbishing was to commence. I thought they first made them in 1950?

I've seen them installed on factory original C No.4Mk.1* rifles starting in the 93L serial range and dispersed throughout 1950 production.

I just checked the book and Skennerton confirms LB was making them in 1950...

I imported a couple hundred C No.4's out of Greek service in 2001 and there were a dozen or so, all 1950 dated with original 6 groove barrels. They have a tiny "6" stamped on the right bayonet lug.

I was wondering......... The rifle I have is a 1949 dated Longbranch with the 6 groove barrel.......has a definate '49 barreling date stamped on the barrel too. So some must have been available in 1949?

The earliest C.Mk4 I have is is fitted to a 1949 Long Branch and barrel dated '49.

The latest I have is breech dated '58
