So what can you tell me about Savage made Snipers with Canadian Markings?

/l\ isn't Canadian unless it is within a "C". A number of the first Savages supplied to the UK were converted to sniper equipments. I suppose this was in the period when shipments of No. 4s were arriving in the UK, but there was not a sufficient stock to start large scale replacement of the SMLE. While there are standard Savage made No. 4 rifles with Canadian marks, the majority went to the UK. What scope is on the rifle? It is possible that a Savage "T" was issued to Canadian troops overseas.

I've seen a large C/l\ on the top of the receiver ring of Savage made rifles. What scope is on the rifle? Manufacturer, Mark, etc.? Any suggestion where the rifle was set up as a sniper? Early Savage T's may have been set up at Enfield, rather than H&H. While no Ts are common, a Savage set up at Long Branch would be exceptionally unusual. Can you post photos?

There were NO Savage snipers set up at Long Branch.

This is a common story, but is unfortunately false.

Any gauges would have been set-up for LB receivers, and by the time Savage shut down (late '44), LB was building snipers from the receiver up (as per Law) rather than targeting & rebuilding as in the UK.

ALL Savage Ts were set up in England. There is conflicting evidence (the commonly known H&H markings did not fully develop until '44), but the consensious seems to be that all of them were converted by Holland & Holland (they are missing one of the unique Enfield inspection stamps)per Tompkins&Payne.

The initial 1400 "trials" (Skennerton) rifles converted by Enfield may have (Tompkins&Payne) included some Savages & Brit 1941 dated No4s. However the Savages seem unlikely as apparently the initial lot was rejected by the inspectors (as per Skennerton).

As to the Canadian property markings: All of the pictures I have seen of Canadian ETO snipers are using Non LB products where identifiable.
