    Savage No4 Mk1, NOT a 1*

    Spotted one of these today.

Clearly marked as a Mk1 and built like one.
Not "collector grade", but seems to be correctly marked.
Bore looks good, but I didn't bore-scope it.
Has been a "range rifle" at some time; some minor "adjustments" and marks from where a Central sight base has been fitted at some time..
    Mismatched bolt body.
Very early "sculpted" (like a Mk6) cocking piece
No3 bolt-head with odd "copper" colouration in spots.
Fore-end band is the early "machined" type, not "fabricates
Rear hand-guard has the "grasping grooves.
All the timber seems to be of the one type. NOT walnut; something "blonde" and straight grained.
Safety lever spring retaining screw needs tightening.
    "mazakicon" butt-plate.

I'll get the details of "price and availability".

Early Savage was Mk1. Several Savage Mk1s have been found converted to T specs by Holland & Holland but never scoped.

Someone brought one of these into my LGS down in Texas just before I moved... Unfortunately someone had chopped it up and turned it into a No5 Jungle Carbine. At first glance it was a really nice No5. But once I got a good look at it and realized what it was the reality hurt.
