Don't waste your money on a repro. Ask yourself who you are trying to fool with one... yourself? Or the next owner? Or people you show the gun to? None of those is flattering. Just my opinion.

the idea is to protect an expensive stock until I can save up for the real thing

You could do that with a standard but plate for $5.

    no trap

    Attachment 64305

Rice, here is an early Winchester stock, if you have an early stock like
this no trap, it is very difficult to find either a Winchester or Springfield solid butt
    plate.

As I stated in the post below, the reproduction solid butt plates are poor examples for a number of reasons: the two holes are not the correct space between center and you have to ruin the stock by drilling a larger hole in the bottom so you can angle the screw downward. Also most of these fake solid butt plates are too short and you have extra space at the toe.

Do you have a cartouche on your stock ? Best advice is to keep looking for something original

the subject is no longer relevant. I had a line on a correct stock and was ready to pull the trigger but at the last minute I really looked close at the tap door stock that was on the rifle. It matched perfect with the hand guards for color and texture and it just felt like it had been on the rifle for a very long time. So even though the rifle is correct except for one rear sight knob and this butt stock I am going to leave the rifle alone just the way I got it because the stock that is on it could have been an original upgrade.
