    M1 Carbine front sight help

OK SO is there a trick to putting on the front sight on a M1icon Carbine ?

I have the 3 pieces but Ive worked for an hour and I cant get the pin in.

What started this all is, the M1 was my dads he had a nice custom wood stock hand made for it 50 years ago. He gave it to me many years ago and I now gave it to my son. Well my son wanted a new stock because he wants to shoot and hunt with the gun but does not want to ruin the hand made wood stock. When the stock was made 50 years ago the original front sight was taken off and a nice hand made sight put on. Well we decided to go back with a regular front sight so I bought the new pieces.

BUT, the notch in the key does not line up properly with the hole in the sight. It is like the key is setting too high.

    Thanks,
    J

If all else fails, including reversing the key fore and aft (180 degree spin) use a round needle file to deepen the notch on the key. If the notch gets a little wide the sight MIGHT slide forward a bit under recoil, but not enough to matter as it should be a light press fit on the barrel.

they do make a tool that sets the sight on correctly, cosy is about 20.00
however, asuming this is a G.I. carbine,
look in the hole as you tap the front sight on, just watch to see if the hole lines up,
the sight pin is usually staked in place, so you may need to clean the hole with a round file.
