Brief zeroing seesion with the old No.4 Mk.I (T) and the No.3 (T)

Will probably hunt with these rifles if the weather permits.




Mismatched scope, but otherwise good gear. My first No.4 (T). Had it since ths mid '80s.


It strings a little due to the forend bedding being a bit off, but it's good enough for critters.:



This beastie cost "too much" at the time, but they don't litter the countryside.







First five rounds out of it on 3-4 four years!:


Good enough, a couple of inches above point of aim.

Will do more details as time permits. Will be occupied at the range the rest of the day.

That scope drum/knob and dial is an almost exact copy of a WWI German model.

Thanks for that Jmoore - never seen a 3(T) 'in the flesh' myself over here in Blighty. I wasn't aware that BSA made any scopes for rifles actually...

And that's not just ANY No3 (T), it's an Irish Free State contract example. Note the markings on the leg of the rear ring, the BSA logo on the scope tube, & the more squared off contour of the front base. Nice.

Strange, the FF looks like the logo of 'Florence and Fred', the clothing side of Tesco ( a large UK clothing and food store.....)! Are you sure it wasn't from Tesco DRP?

A fair amount of finish gone off of the barrel bands and such. Generally has well used look to it. What usage it saw during it's service life, I don't know.

It has rather more felt recoil than the No.4, and the bolt operation isn't as smooth, but it shoots well. It also feeds more reliably with assorted bullet types.

The biggest drama I've had is that the scope won't stay put in the front ring. It has a history of allowing the scope to walk forward, thus loosening the rear attachment. It might be sorted now, but it doesn't get any more rounds through it than required to check for POI just in case.

Very nice. It's also a very low serial on your rifle; in fact I think it's the lowest I've ever come across.
