Walther P1. What do I have here?

[IMG][/IMG]Picked this one up at a local Pawn Shop yesterday. Stripped it down before the final deal, and all of the internals looked fine. The left side of the slide has the Walther banner, followed by the stamping of : P1 Kal 9mm 4/81 with the 4 point "star"...with 199 and the "dot inside circle".
Takedown lever has the "star" also. Alloy frame is stamped with the serial...083199 along with the "dot in circle". Trigger guard has BW stamped on it. Right side has nothing stamped on the slide but a "square".
Right side frame has..."W5.90" with what appears to be 2 "eagles"...
Mag is stamped with the Walther banner, and 9mm.
Century, of course, is the importer. Stamped under the barrel.
    $350 out the door.
Any info on the origin of this pistol will be appreciated.
Going to the country to shoot it today. Hope I didn't get..."taken".

I'd guess at a 1981 Walther P1 ex Germanicon Police.

The frame doesn't have the hex upgrade, and I thought Bw was Army and not Police. Hence I wonder if it was given a new slide in 1990 that was numbered to the frame and then dropped into storage.

The "non hex" is what had me puzzled. I had thought that after '61 it was standard. After looking at online sales, and offerings, I've seen '71 and later models offered without the upgrade.

Bw could be hardly be anything else but Bundeswehr. Go to the highly informative link above, and take a look at the photo that shows a Wehrmacht P1 together with a Bundeswehr example. The Bw - both letters as capitals, but the W being smaller than the B - can be seen on the frame directly above the trigger.
