Possible to replace swivel on Type II band?

l recently bought a Type II PI band for my Inland project, but when I got it, I found the sling ring is oval shaped. The seller swears up and down that the Bavarians hammered out the sling rings round to take their wider slings.
Long story short -- I've listed it for sale with full disclosure since the seller refuses to take it back. I have no reason to believe it's not the original ring, but it's not going on my carbine. My prayer is that I can find someone slightly less anal than I am and cut my losses.
The seller advises, however that I can replace the ring with a correct shaped ring, which I have from another band. I can't figure out how to do it, though, without seriously boogering up the band.
Is this possible or more trouble than it's worth?

I'd hate to try prying the band apart to R and R the loop.
Might be able to cut the welded/brazed joint apart from a bayo band, instal it and while clamped have it spot welded/brazed. Could always just dip the loop in park to re-color.

    Just a thought,

    P.S. Welcome to the forum.
Also where did you list it for sale?

I've listed it for sale on many, many forums. If you're interested, you can search under my name at The Firing Line, Glock Talk, ColtForum, Smith-Wesson Forum, VaGunTrader.com, etc.

As far as the offer for the sling ring goes, I actually have one, but I appreciate the offer. I don't know anyone with welding equipment, though. If I screw it up worse, it's worth nothing. Then I will really be upset.

I think that seller is being less than honest. I have had three Bavarians for ten years, An I.B.M, an S.G and a Quality, and they show no evidence of the swivel being altered. The Austrians however, did use a leather sling, and I have seen no evidence of them altering the swivel either. Best to check with Jim MOCK, Bavarian M1icon Carbines .com He will know. Hope this helps. Mike.

I have a spare type II/III loop, if you are interested. You could open up the roll that retains the sling loop and put the new one in. I'll send it to you for a smile if you want it. PM me.

    RM,
I'd be worried the ROLL might break, scar or mar up.
Might be worth trying it on a old beater Bayo band first to see if it would work.
Figures....... guy finds the right part...... but battles issues.

    Cheers,
    Charlie
