    Glass bedding Mauser 98

I am bedding a sporterized Germanicon 98 with its original barrel (built in 1943). I would like to hear from folks with experience bedding 98s with military barrels.

Did you get your best accuracy with a free-floated barrel, full bedded, free-floated plus forend pad, or what?

I understand trial-and-test may be the ideal, but I would still like to hear from those who have bedded a similar rifle.

    Thanks for looking,

    Roy

Bed your receiver as standard for this type of action including rear tang and trigger guard. If the barrel is cut down free float. If it's full military length tab bed where the middle band would be. If your stock isn't that long then it will be trial and error starting with free floating.

Edit: do you plan to aluminum pillar bed the action? I highly recommend this as it provided me with excellent results.

The barrel is probably full length...but, that is only 24". The stock is a conventional take-off sporter which I bought used. From the middle of the front action screw to the tip of the stock is about 10.5".

I plan a steel rear pillar like the original military stock; and, a steel or aluminum front recoil lug.
