    Springfield action cover?

I recently acquired an action cover made of ruberized or backed, OD canvas. It has 3 snaps and a thong at the end. Inside it is stamped "S-1942".

I had originally thought, when I purchased this item, that it was the WWI vintage cover that fit both 1917 Enfield and 1903 Springfield, but that cover has 4 snaps and of course wouldn't be stamped 1942.

The cover does fit my '03's and appears to be made for that action.

I have not seen this type cover in any of the 1903 Springfield or web gear books that I have.

Can anyone shed light on this?

    Thanks,

    Robert

I believe your cover is for the Enfield No. 4 and possibly another model, not the m1917, P-14, or '03.

A quick search turned up some pics. Perhaps this fits your description - https://www.libertytreecollectors.co...34&idcategory=

    Talking Yep....

....S stands for Stevens / Savage production , they made the No.4 rifle for the Britishicon Empire. It was made in 1942.
