He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose
There are no great men, only great challenges that ordinary men are forced by circumstances to meet.
I reckon I can see the smudge of an ejected cartridge from the centre guys Garand just above the breech block.
What's the belt with the wire in the foreground?
Not wire....cotton cord . Not a belt....57MM Recoiless storage case . Scope / rear sight block fits into " shoebox" area , monopod ( internal tripod fore-leg ) in other . Underneath would be the pistol grip holding pouch.
Chris
That's not something you see a lot of... Neat..
Looks like the middle guy is wearing a cloth bandolier around his waist instead of a cartridge belt and did any notice the flash hider on what looks like a carbine held by the far guy, Ray

His bandoleer is just ridden up because of his position, look at the sling, it's running up to his shoulder. He has something else on, it looks like there's a cartridge belt but it's ridden way up...

That "something else" is actually part of whatever it is that is lying on the ground in the foreground.
Was the M-1 ever used in the grenade launching guise at anytime in its service as that may be a grenade launching device on the 3rd soldiers weapon. TIA
No Paul, the something else that's way up under his armpits. Not on his hip. Look at the back of his armpit and under his elbow.
Both carbine and rifle were used for grenade launching. The last weapon is a carbine with a flash hider attached.
