He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose
There are no great men, only great challenges that ordinary men are forced by circumstances to meet.

It's hard to tell if those boots are GI double buckle or Germanicon bob souled. German's had a type of double buckle also. The ammo pouches don't look GI to me though and the web gear looks too cluttered for US gear. Very difficult to tell but I don't think it's an American.

The soldier on the pavement is an American GI. He is clearly wearing a GI web belt. He has rubber overshoes on his feet. I can't tell if he was wounded or if he is deceased.

When I see pictures like this - I am reminded of my father. I wonder what ever happened to the GIs pictured - did they live through the war? Go onto a fruitful civilian life? Did they have a family? Children? And more generally, what ever became of them?

Agree with above. usually you look at the pics, and fascinated with them, then get an occasional one that shows the human cost on allied side that tends to make you think about the people pictured...

Being Memorial Day weekend, this is the time to pay our fallen an extra honor for their sacrifice. I'm going to take some quiet time to remember some friends whose names are on "The Wall". I am also going to toast to them and to one very special PFC. Jacob Frank Derrico. Will you join me?.....Frank
