Need some opinions on a No. with Australian markings

Greetings to all,

I have had this rifle for a few years now, It is a 1942 Maltby, Australian marked (large D with an arrow inside, the brass butt plate is stamped D^D), I know some Savage and long branch rifles were sent to N.Z. and Australia during the war. The stock is stamped 4/43 where the serial number is usually found. Anyone have information on No. 4 rifles from England that were sent to Australia?

Vulture who used to be a regular on the 'old' Culver site had a bit of info and pix of No.4s in Australian service. From memory, Skennerton, et al state that they were RAAF issue, but Vuture had some pix (from the AWM I believe) showing some army use within Oz.
