1903-a3 lettering on stock

I looked at a rifle at a gun show last week and this 03-a3 had a black colored stenciled number, i think M83 on the stock. can anyone tell me what this is? and on the stock next to the cartouch with crossed guns letters like AAW or something like that? anyone know? thanks,

The stenciled number is likely a rack number, and the AAW sounds like an Augusta Arsenal rebuild mark.
