if so, you're probably at least 60. today's troopies aren't allowed to have this much fun. of course, if you don't know what they are burning, you probably don't want to know.

    Anyone Remember This

Had to do that in 1987-88. If I recall the mix 5 parts gas /1part diesel, could be wrong. SKIP

22 years later, at the 1991 tailhook convention in las vagas (yeah, THAT tailhook convention). note that my pilot, harvey haegstrom got a little portly, not like his lean mean RIO.

hey i took care of them at Dong Ha, worst part of being in a comm unit is 2/3s where 2800s.even the dumbest of them are E4s when they get out of school. so a lowly operator gets to do all the fun things. wasnt all that bad unless you got some on you and wasnt enough water to take a shower. Many a time at Chu Lai by the Sea. Used straight diesel fuel, had to stand right next to it and stir it at times because the other guys didn't take the time to do it right. Finally raised enough hell with my MSgt., and he formed a quick class and made guys practice on doing it right. Ah, the good old days. NOT!

Dont be so quick GOO, Us modern "troopies" still use the tried and true method. Only thing is we dont have ready access to Mogas, so there is more stirring.

I still have my membership card to the Chu Lai Beach & Breakfast Club. I don't remember adding anything to the JP-4. Just pour and stir.

I was burning 20 4x4' sheets of wet rotten plywood off our range this weekend. The 5 gallons of diesel got it hot enough to get going. The black smoke and smell did take me back.

Goo, do you remember the plywood e-club (slop chute) on the sand with the generator out back to fire up?
