Some of those photos looked staged--for instance the partroops flying to the jump site. It appears to be daylite and troopers have no facepaint, emblems on helmets, helmet nets(first one). And on June 8 they are still getting heavy Germanicon machine gun fire as they land on the beach?? Why do you call these "captured" photo collection, did the Germans capture them???

7.62Nato probably meant to say the pics were "captioned" not captured.
The dates on the pics are all screwed up. They were probably captioned by some pencil pusher in the states who didn't have a clue as to the facts.
Notice a short way down the pic of the person beimg helped out of the water by his comrades. Notice the caption. Look further down at the pic of the rubber boat. See anyone familiar? Notice the date.
Both those pics were taken on 6/6. I can't remember the mans name, but the reason he had to be hauled out (first pic) was total exhaustion. He made numerous trips swimming through the surf to rescue soldiers who could not make it to shore after their boats were sunk. He saved many men and was awarded for his effort, but I also can't remember which one he recieved.

    FWIW,

    Emri

A very moving post, hats off to "The Greatest Generation". If only our youth of today knew the sacrifices that were made for our freedoms, mabye we would be heading in a better direction.

The Coast Guard landing craft in one photo was from my Uncle Ben's ship, USS Sameul Chase (APA 26).
