Thanks for the shot Medic.... Interesting items other than the carbine is the fact that his dog-tags seem to be on a leather thong, with tape wrapped around the metal tags to keep them from making noise.
So, obviously an early rifle, with that bull-nose upper hand guard, could you assume that the weapon would be Winchester??

My dad (WW2 Marine vet) told me once that guys often used leather or whatever else was handy for their dogtag chains because the metal chains got way too hot for comfort.
Is that front bad broken with a piece hanging down between the bottom of the stock and the sling?
