Just dropped a CMMG .22 LR drop-in conversion kit into an old A2 upper I had laying around since I put the new A4 upper on my RR lower. Took it to the range today and ran a box (500+) rounds of cheap ammo thru it. Dang, that was fun! Shooting like it was 1985 again. BangBangBangBangBangBangBang... at 3 cents a round you can do that and not feel bad. Had a few (maybe 6) failures to fire, but all fired on a second strike. Think the slide is a little tight and sometimes doesn't come completely in to battery, but it seems to be improving with break in. Extraction of fired brass seems good, but sometimes fails to extract an unfired round if you are clearing the chamber-again, seems to be improving with break-in. I expected a lot of fouling from typically dirty LR ammo, but it wasn't bad at all. Accuracy was good, even with the too-fast-for-.22LR twist rate of my AR barrel at 1:9. All I had to do at 100 yd was crank up the elevation a bit. Was able to bust clay pigeons at 100, about half the time. Could be my 60-year-old eyes and open sights...Information
